The only goal of Sunday's game came after 12 minutes, when Abdoulrazak Traore's cross was met by the unfortunate Piotr Stawarczyk, who turned the ball into his own net.
Chorzow dominated the match in the first half and should have gone level after 30 minutes when Sergejs Kozans slipped to allow Arkadiusz Piech through on goal, but Wojciech Pawlowski did well to make the save.
Gdansk could have sealed the match with 20 minutes left, but Piotr Wisniewski saw his shot saved.
The win moves Gdansk up to 11th and puts them four points clear of the relegation zone.
In other matches on Sunday, Cracovia Krakow defeated GKS Belchatow 2-1and Widzew Lodz took a 1-0 win away from home over Lech Poznan.
