Trezeguet quits UAE after two games

Friday, December 9, 2011 8:10 AM

Former France international David Trezeguet has left United Arab Emirates side Bani Yas after just two appearances citing a persistent thigh injury.

Trezeguet, 34, joined the UAE Pro League runners-up in August on a one-year deal after leaving Spanish club Hercules.

However, a long-standing thigh problem hindered Trezeguet, who has now been released from his contract.

In quotes appearing on the Asian Confederation website, Bani Yas head coach Gabriel Calderon said: "David is a good person and I have a lot of respect for him because he was a big player.

"But I let him go. I told him to go. David did not want to be here and I do not want unhappy players at the club. It was best for everyone that he has gone.''

Trezeguet was once one of Europe's most feared striker, scoring 171 goals during a decade at Juventus and winning both the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000, scoring a golden goal winner in the latter.
